Background

Client: Alexion
Value: Greater than €10million
Design Team:  PM Group

Alexion are currently building a new bulk biologics manufacturing facility.  As part of this development Hutch O’Malley McBeath were commissioned to undertake the structural design of the new modular platforms for the Buffer Prep Buffer Hold and Buffer Pipe Holding Modules.

Challenge

Hutch O’Malley were part of a team, consisting of Purepipe and BCD Fabricators.  The main challenge was to develop a design where there was limited construction on site, within a clean room environment, no welding permitted and limited access to the areas where the plant was to be located.

Solution

Hutch O’Malley Consulting Ltd in conjunction with Purepipe and BCD developed a solution of modular platforms, which contained all the tanks and associated pipe work.  This involved development of specialist splice connections and the design of all structures in stainless steel associated with a clean room environment.

Value

Development of a modular design that achieved the challenges of the project, limited access, no site welding permitted and the development of connections suitable for a clean room environment.

Based on the modular design, limited construction time on site approximately 3 months.

Due to our own investment in the most current up to date software, as a company we were able to fully communicate within the projects BIM environment.
